BaziFIT contacted me in mid 2016 to see if I was interested in helping design their new fitness product. This would be a device that attaches to fitness equipment, rather than on than a wearable that is placed directly on a human. I was intrigued, so we started a contract together. The design process began with research and defining the product a bit more. We decided a LED indicator, informing the human on how well they are doing would be a great addition. This generated the key form factor: a large diamond like surface that glows from an LED underneath the device. The next challenges I faced was figuring out how to design functioning attachment points. We needed a strong grip for barbell/dumb bell bars, and a textured surface to grip the suspension cords. We settled on magnets and a strap with teeth surface combo which allows the device to attach to many pieces of equipment including cable machines. Another adapter was needed for equipment like Bosu Balls, so that BaziFIT could be attached to the bottom with the magnets.
Several iterations exist, but the end result satisfied all needs and created a more exciting product that would effectively engage its user base. This contract with BaziFIT eventually led to many projects with me becoming the creative lead.
